Recently, the Iowa Department of Education released statewide Graduation Rates which continue to increase.  The percentage increased from 90.8% in 2015 to 91.3% in 2016.

The Graduation Rate for Spencer Community Schools for 2016 was 94.6%, which is 3.3% above the statewide Graduation Rate.  


Below are the Graduation Rate comparisons for the last five years for the State of Iowa and Spencer Community Schools.


Spencer Community Schools has worked to provide increased levels of engagement and additional learning opportunities for students. Teachers are increasing student engagement through authentic tasks and Project Based Learning. Also, Extended Career Experiences allow high school students to go out into the community and learn about career interests and opportunities. 

The Iowa Department of Education also released Dropout Rates for 2016.  The State Dropout Rate was 2.8% while the Dropout Rate for Spencer Community Schools was 1.49%.  The local Dropout Rate is 1.31% below the State Dropout Rate. 

While the Spencer Schools Dropout Rate is below the state rate, the goal is for every student to graduate.  Students who earn a high school diploma will have greater educational and career opportunities available.
